Bachelor’s and Master’s Theses

We regularly offer opportunities to write Bachelor’s and Master’s theses on a variety of topics related to the labor market and labor economics. In recent years, students have written their theses with our chair on topics such as:

  • School-to-Work Transitions of Youth from SGB II Households

This thesis examined the school-to-work transition pathways of young people from households receiving SGB II benefits. It analysed the factors associated with different post-school outcomes, with a particular focus on the transition into vocational education and training.

  • What is the Role of Changes in Female Characteristics and Labor Force Participation Behaviour in Explaining Trends in Income Inequality in Germany?

Building on Gary Becker’s theoretical framework, the thesis examined how female labour force participation is related to the strength of comparative advantage in raising children. The contribution of marital status, number of children, education and other personal characteristics to explaining trends in earnings inequality among women between 2003 and 2018 is evaluated systematically using a decomposition method.

Upon agreement, students may also complete a Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis as part of an internship at the IAB, which offers the opportunity to work with IAB data for their thesis.

Students interested in writing their thesis at our chair are welcome to contact us directly at bernd.fitzenberger@fau.de to discuss potential topics and next steps.
